A mistress whose services during her initial three

years agreement have been completely satisfactory will, on the expiration of that period be placed on the perman-

ent and pensionable establishment, subject to the

exigencies of the service and to her being certified

medically fit.

When a mistress is placed on the permanent

establishment she receives salary at the rate of £360 a

year, rising by annual increments of £20 to £400 a year,

and thereafter, subject to an efficiency bar, at the rate

of £410 a year, rising by annual increments of £10 to £600

a year.

Mistresses may undertake private tuition subject

to the permission of the Director of Education.

A mistress is granted, while in the Colony, free

partially furnished quarters if available or a rent

allowance in lieu thereof of $50 a month.

A mistress is provided with a free First Class

passage on first appointment. If her agreement is not renewed upon its expiration a return passage will be

provided.

Ordinarily a mistress after four years resident

service is eligible for 8 months leave on full pay and

a free return passage.

The present rule as to superannuation is that, an

officer holding a pensionable appointment may be allowed

to retire on the ground of ill-health after 10 full
